A GENTLE APPROACH TO BULLYING AWARENESS…

Sandy Gemmill: Bringing Life to “NELSON THE GIANT”

Children's Book on Bullying Awareness, written by Mompreneur Sandy Gemmill

Sandy Gemmill has had a keen interest in piano since the age of eight years old. Although Sandy enjoys playing classical piano, her preference has always been to compose songs on topics dear to her heart. Today, as the mother of two young boys, Sandy has found a new niche writing catchy songs to brighten the hearts and minds of all children.

One of Sandy’s passions is to help victims of bullying. Her music teaches children to seek the uniqueness of their peers and encourages them to accept each other just as they are.  With The Story of Nelson the Giant, she reaches into the hearts of bullies to help them realize the impact they have on other people’s lives, and to inspire them to change their ways.  Furthermore, her story gives hope to victims of bullying and uplifts them to reach their potential in life.

You can visit Sandy on Saturday April 21, 2012 at Indigo Bookstore (Milton Crossroads) from 11am-12pm for an exclusive storytime and book signing session! For more information, visit www.nelsonthegiant.com.

Of course, there are MANY people to thank for such an incredible event as there’s no way I could have pulled this all off on my own, so please bear with me:

  • First and foremost, to My Family: To my husband David for his support throughout the year, leading up to the event, and being my go-to-guy for just about everything!  Behind every successful woman tends to be a supportive partner in crime, and I truly know that the success of “Milton Mompreneurs” is hinged completely on this one man’s involvement. Thank you honey!  To my parents and parents-in-law, and extended family (Patsy, Zia Lina, Emily, Zi-Sa, Zio-Mico), for their unconditional support and advice and babysitting (often at last minute!), your help has always been immense and greatly appreciated!! Thank you all so much!

  • To our Sponsors: La Rose Italian Bakery, Dr. Levitt & staff of Mill Ridge Family Dental, Helen & Luisa of Knowledge First Financial, Jeff & electrical staff of Simple Energy Solutions, Shane of Cora’s Milton, Scott & Brad of Scooter’s Catering, George of Kwik Kopy Milton, Dean & Allison of SNAP Milton, Theresa of Theresa Brereton Photography, Niraj & Natasha of Take It & Go, Brenda of Par-T-Perfect, Jill of BullFrog Power, Sam of Momstown Milton, and to all our promotional supporters… to have all of you involved in such an important day was incredible, and I am sincerely grateful and appreciative to know that such talented entrepreneurs in this great town are welcoming and supportive of other small businesses through Milton Mompreneurs. Thank you so much!

  • To our Supporters: Mayor Gordon Krantz (who has made it to all 3 of our events since we started!!), to MP Lisa Raitt, Councillors Colin Best and Rick Di Lorenzo: Your unconditional support of small businesses and of the women in this community is amazing, and your presence helps our members to gain confidence in knowing their importance in this community is validated, no matter how small their business may be! To Carla Collins, our star of the day, thank you for coming out to our town and sharing your humour and incredible energy with our members and the community; you were amazing!  To Dean of SNAP Milton, Colleen and Graham of The Milton Canadian Champion, and Jessica of TV Cogeco: thank you for coming out and sharing our event with members of the community, so we may continue to spread the word of Milton Mompreneurs and help our members see continued success with their businesses!

  • To ALL our Volunteers: Angie, Cindy, Kate, Jennifer, Idana, Joseph, Domenic, Matt, Dave C., Adina, Ella, Carolina, Caroline, Emma, Michelle, Lesley, Grace, Suzanne, Fiona, and Eva. I know you took time out from your own jobs and families to help with set-up and tear-down and bag stuffing and promoting and making the show run smoothly. I don’t think words will ever really express just how grateful I am… without your help I would have been so lost, so THANK YOU THANK YOU!!

  • To our Amazing Vendors: you were all so energetic and happy ALL DAY! Really, I couldn’t ask for a better group of women (and some men!!) to work with and associate with. We had so much incredible feedback from shoppers, letting us know how impressed they were with the variety and professionalism of our vendors… so kudos for making all our visitors’ time worthwhile, and for making my job so easy!!  A special thanks also to the business owners who donated to our raffle table, your generosity helped us earn much needed donations towards our grand total for Halton Women’s Place!

Again, thank you to everyone for your continued support of Milton Mompreneurs. Together we really can bring awareness of all the incredible ways that small business owners are helping to change the landscape of our great community… When we work together, we can only strengthen each other, so here’s to all our continued success!
